Tuesday, 07-25-2000. Overcast skies
this morning. Happy Anniversary Sweetie! Our Pic of the
Day will feature shots from our Sunday evening trip to the Chetco River and
Brookings. The photo on the left has some boaters fishing for summer
run Salmon with the Rogue River Bridge above.
We left off just north of the
Nesika Beach city limits. I stopped at a turnout on Highway 101 and shot the
image on the right of a hazy south end of Nesika Beach. Nesika Beach is a fairly
level beach so the wave action is intense with several rows of breakers creating
a constant moisture haze that obscures the images whether shot from Port Orford
or up-close like this one.
Our
next stop is at a Rogue River viewpoint that sits above Wedderburn (Gold Beach's
neighbor on the north bank of the Rogue River). The picture on the
left shows a fishing boat heading out on the river with the Port of
Gold Beach in the background. I heard the summer salmon run on the Rogue River
is a good one. The river east of the bridge was crowded with recreational
fishing boats.
The first photo from the set below
shows the Rogue River Bridge in wide angle with Wedderburn in the foreground.
The second image has the Port of Gold Beach with northern part of the town and
hills in the background. Our last image in this set is a zoomed image of the
salmon fisherman seen in the middle photo.

This next set of photos below (from left to
right) show part of the Gold Beach commercial fishing fleet and processing
plant, the Rogue River with Tom Cat Hill above, and some pleasure craft berths
at the port with Old Town Gold Beach in the background.

This last set of images show some Coast Guard
crafts docked at the Wedderburn station, the Gold Beach Airport with Cape
Sebastian in the background, and finally Cape Sebastian viewed thru the haze
with the beach at Gold Beach in the foreground.

Tomorrow's update will feature some beautiful
pics from Lone Ranch Beach and Rainbow Rock Beach. You'll want to return for
these pictures.

Monday, 07-24-2000. Foggy on the
coast, sunny and clear inland this morning. Looks like it's going to be another
beautiful day on the coast. Yesterday Norma was showing property in Gold Beach
with a client who flew out here from Colorado to pursue their family dream to live on the
Southern Oregon Coast. We agreed to meet after her appointments in downtown Gold
Beach and from there travel to her new Chetco River listing
in Brookings to install signs.
I
was sitting at Battle Rock Park, watching the beach action and snapping pics (like the one on the left), and waiting for her call; and in
drives a pack of vintage MGs. This group originated from Los Altos, California
(just west of San Jose). They were traveling up the coast and had to stop at our
magnificent Battle Rock Park for pics and ice cream. I grabbed Dan's
digital camera and took the set of photos below showing some of their
meticulously restored vehicles.

Norma
called at 4:30 PM and informed me that her showings were thru. I closed up shop
and headed south to our rendezvous location in Gold Beach. I stopped at the
Humbug Beach viewpoint on Highway 101 and shot this next set of pictures
featuring Humbug Mountain and Beach. The picture on the left shows Humbug
Mountain and Beach in portrait format. The first 2 photos below show action
shots of campers having fun in the Brush Creek outlet, and Humbug Mountain and
Beach in landscape format. You can visit my past Pic of
the Day Humbug Mountain feature by clicking here.

I
hopped back in the car and continued traveling south where I made another quick
stop at the Nesika Beach viewpoint. The photo on the left shows Ophir Beach in
the foreground with Nesika Beach in the background. The town of Ophir has a nice
9 hole golf course that's popular with our local hackers. The set of images
below show Ophir Beach and Nesika Beach in landscape format, a zoomed image of
the two beaches and Euchre Creek outflow, and finally a shot looking back
(north) at Nesika and Ophir Beach taken from just north of the Nesika Beach city
limits. Humbug Mountain and the Port Orford headland is visible thru the haze at
upper left hand portion of the photo.

Tomorrow's Pic of the Day will feature shots of
the Rogue River and Gold Beach.
