April 6, 2001 ~ Tichenor Cove and Port pics

Friday, 04-06-2001 ~ Light rain today. I visited the Port of Port Orford last Wednesday afternoon (4-04-2001). The day was beautiful, clear skies and light wind. The ocean was reflecting a deep blue tint.

Our first set of pics today are view shots looking northwest and west toward Tichenor Cove with the south side of Coast Guard Hill in the background. The photos in this set were shot from the parking area seen in the images above. I took the above pics from the south end of the port looking north towards Graveyard Point (the tall bluff seen in the image at the right).

The first photo below shows Tichenor Cove and port parking area. This spot is a neat place to park and enjoy lunch with a view. The middle picture is a view shot of the cove. Next is a shot looking due west with Tichenor Rock and Hell's Gate in the distance.

The pics below are action shots of birds and people shot from the same location as above. The first image has a fellow enjoying his lunch on the rocks. Next is a zoomed image of a seagull with some large Tichenor Cove seastacks as a backdrop. Our last photo shows the same bird with Tichenor Rock in the background.

I hiked some rocks located at the southwest edge of the port and shot this next set of pics showing the cove as seen from different zoom settings.

The first image below shows some gulls sunning on the rocks with Tichenor Cove as a backdrop. The next two images are zoomed shots of the birds.

Later in the day I took a walk on a low tide Battle Rock Beach (the beach seen in the last photo above). I took several pics that we'll include in future updates. Below is a small sample.
