February 5, 2003 ~ Cape Blanco Sunset:  Jerry and I recently visited Cape Blanco Park and then took a sunset walk on Cape Blanco beach (located just south of the park and headland).  Before walking the beach we stopped by the entry way to the lighthouse and took these pics.  The first group are variable zoom shots of the lighthouse.  I noticed the crystal lenses is removed, hopefully it will be home soon.

The next set of pics are wide angle views from my photo location.  The first two are looks toward the lighthouse and cape.  The last photo is a view north toward the Sixes River outlet.

The first photo below shows the view looking south towards Cape Blanco beach, Port Orford, and Humbug Mountain in the distance.  Next is zoomed view of the large seastack seen in the preceding photo.  After that is a slightly zoomed view of the scene above right.  Last is a portrait shot of the Cape Blanco Lighthouse and the Visitor Center.

We drove to the Cape Blanco beach parking area and took the first two pics before hitting the beach.  The last photo is a wide angle view looking south towards Humbug and the Port Orford Headland.

The pics below are beach level views north towards the cape and lighthouse.  I included the second shot to show the exposed rock formations that usually lay hidden under the sand.  I walked north a bit and took the last two reflection shots, the setting sun put a golden glow on the hillside.

Below are some of my favorite Jerry pics from our visit.  I've had complaints about my beach buddy Jerry being in some of my photos but I look at it this way... it's my site and I like them, I believe he adds scale and interest, plus I post plenty of other pics that he isn't in.  You have an opinion?  Email me

The bluffs at Cape Blanco beach are very interesting, you see fossils and varied stone/sand levels.

Below are some more of the usually sand covered rock formations.

Jerry and I found a comfy log to sit on and watch the sunset, below are a few of the pics posted in chronological order.  The images, though spectacular, don't truly relay the beauty of this sunset.  At times the distant sky appeared to be ablaze.
